In March I was admitted to the ER at Loyola University Medical Center and returned home in April. I was diagnosed with liver disease, told to rest, take the medications and see the doctor at the hospital in about two weeks. The medications prescribed are Fosamax, Aldactone, Envlose Syrup, Folic Acid, Actigall, Lasix and Paxil.
In June a liver biopsy was performed showing cirrhosis, State IV, with severe chronic inflammatory activity, grade 4. The Chronic Hepatitis Staging totaled 14 (grading is from 0-16: 0 being healthy). At this time the doctor indicated that I was now at the top of the list for a liver transplant. Each month I see the doctor at the hospital and have blood drawn for several tests.
In May I began seeing Dr. Knowski with a myriad of problems:
– incredible pain and tightness in the neck, shoulders, jaw and back and some
– severe muscle cramps/spasms
– sleep disturbances, mental confusion, and lack of motor control.
– fatigue, loss of stamina and breathing problems
– abnormally yellow discoloration of my skin and eyes
– nausea and loss of diet
– irregular bowel movements and diarrhea
– minimal urination
– constant itching everywhere and dry skin
– weight fluctuation
– bleeding easily, hard to stop
– constant bruising
– thinning and dry hair
– lack of sexual desire
Since working with Dr. Knowski the headaches are gone, sleep is regular and restful, thought process and memory are back to normal. My hair has filled back in and is very healthy. Itchy skin is gone, the dryness is gone. There are no longer bleeding or severe bruising problems. The abdominal swelling is way down and there is no longer pain. My appetite had returned (mixed blessing there!). No longer weight fluctuations. Sexual desire has returned. My skin and eyes are healthy looking and actually get better weekly.
And the most wonderful to me is a dramatic change in stamina and energy level. About 2 weeks ago I was unable to walk much more than 5-10 minutes without sitting to rest. In October my husband and I visited New York City and walked all over the city every day for a week and I still feel great.
Almost each step forward has uncovered another layer with another problem so it has been constant work of adjusting these new and different pains and concerns. I have seen Dr. Knowski twice a week since May until this past week when we backed off to once a week. These sessions have been some of the most helpful and healthful of my life. Dr. Knowski has treated me with chiropractic and nutritional expertise along with intense caring. This has kept me going hoping and improving my life. This treatment plan has turned things around to such a degree that the results of the monthly blood tests show constant improvement and this has been noted by the liver specialist.
This incredible improvement has taken place in just 6 months. I feel that I am at the point or very close to it of being able to say that I believe a transplant is not necessary and I am not going to have one. I highly recommend chiropractic therapy to help anyone with any of an amazing variety of problems. I cannot express my thanks enough to Dr. Knowski for all that she has done for me and continues to do.
