Cutting Recess from Schools May Reduce Test Scores

Many times we find ourselves telling our children, “You cannot go out and play until all of your homework is done.” But are we doing more harm than good?

Many schools have decreased recess time in hopes of boosting test scores among students. However, there is a growing body of research that shows that recess and outdoor play have a positive effect on a student’s behavior as well as academic performance.

Many non-profit organizations hope to guide schools and parents in reestablishing the much needed play time. These organization host events, build playgrounds, and even teach children how to resolve conflict creatively. Be an advocate for your child play time and work time should go hand in hand.

Make sure you child takes time to have fun.
