Secrets to Being a Healthy Snackaholic

Secrets to Being a Healthy Snackaholic

Do you know that the average American consumes almost 25% of their daily calories from snacking? In fact, snacking is the leading cause of childhood obesity. Fortunately, it is also the easiest habit to change. By addressing WHAT snacks you are eating, you can greatly change the quality of your food intake. Keep these snacking tips in mind to maintain a health-conscious diet:

  • The size of the snack should be the right size- less than 100 calories is a good guide.
  • Pick foods that are low in fat and sugar and high in fiber and water. Ex: an apple is better than a bag of chips.
  • Aim for fruits, vegetables, and whole-grain snacks.
  • Try to eliminate foods and drinks that list sugar or corn syrup as one of the first ingredients.
  • Put snacks in small plastic containers or bags so they are easy to carry in a pocket or backpack. Putting snacks in containers helps you eat the right size portion.

Spring is here and along with it come Airborne Pollen and Allergy Season

Spring is here and along with it come Airborne Pollen & Allergy Season — Itchy, sneeze, mucus-producing, make-you-miserable pollen. As you know all too well that insane pollen counts are the price we pay for tree-lined streets and beautiful fall foliage.

But this year, instead of reaching for the same old temporary (and questionable) comfort of allergy meds, why not help nip mucus in the bud with nature’s delicious decongestants?

Tree of Life Health Center Help You Understand Your Poop

Our bodies are getting bombarded every day with harmful toxins like chemicals in food, pollution in the air, along with many other every-day contaminations like fragrances, beauty shop products, and household cleaning supplies. Even our body’s own natural processes are sources of free-radicals. The good news is that our bodies are very well designed and have ways to filter out and get rid of these harmful by-products through what are known as “primary pathways of elimination.” The digestive system is one of those pathways that help keep your body healthy.

Keep in mind when considering this is that the body is a flow system. Every single system has a specific function that works in conjunction with all of the other systems of the body for one overriding purpose: to keep YOU alive and well.
